History

On January 23, 1953 seven members of Jones United Methodist Church filed the necessary documents with the State of California to establish the Jones Methodist Church Credit Union. Under the leadership of the late Reverend Hamilton T. Boswell, we addressed financial needs using cooperative economics within the church family.

Dr. Boswell looked out of his office and saw members with new cars and thought, “We should be able to make these loans here at the church." Reverend Boswell recognized the fact that African Americans were getting redlined and charged unfair rates. The Credit Union officially opened in May 1953. Membership share value at that time was $5.00.

Today we have 339 members and growing!
